GAF is the largest roofing manufacturer in North America. When we tell you we use GAF certified materials, here's what that actually means, and what your options are.
Why GAF Certification Matters
Any contractor can buy GAF shingles at a supplier. GAF certified contractors go further: we're trained in GAF installation methods, we follow their specifications, and we're authorized to issue factory-backed warranties that non-certified contractors can't provide.
The warranty is the key difference. GAF's standard shingle warranty covers the materials. GAF's System Plus and Silver Pledge warranties (available only through certified contractors) cover both materials and the installation itself, for periods up to 50 years.
The GAF Product Line: What We Recommend for NYC
Timberline HDZ: Our standard recommendation
The Timberline HDZ is the best-selling shingle in the country for good reason. It's dimensional (architectural), meaning it has depth and shadow lines that give it a more premium look than 3-tab shingles. It's rated for 130 mph winds. It has Class 4 impact resistance. It's available in 20+ colors.
For most NYC residential roofing, the Timberline HDZ is the right choice: quality, value, and warranty in one product.
GAF Camelot II: When you want a premium look
The Camelot II has a larger profile and a more pronounced texture that mimics slate from the street. If your home has a steep pitch that's visible from the street, the Camelot II makes a visible difference in curb appeal. It costs about 20% more than the Timberline HDZ.
GAF Grand Sequoia: Maximum visual impact
The Grand Sequoia has an extra-large shingle profile that creates strong shadow lines. It's popular on high-visibility rooflines where the roof is a design statement.
Colors That Work in NYC
Charcoal: Works with almost anything. Classic, understated, ages well.
Weathered Wood: Brown/gray tones that complement brick, which covers most of NYC's residential stock.
Barkwood: Warm brown that reads well with tan or beige exteriors.
Oyster Gray: Light gray, works particularly well with white or light-colored exteriors.
We bring samples to every color consultation so you're making the decision in real light, next to your actual exterior, not guessing from a catalog photo.
