About Wise Constructing

Austin's trusted general contractor since 2009. 17 years. 850+ projects. One standard of work.

OUR STORY

Built out of frustration with how contractors operate

Marcus Wise started this company in 2009 after 8 years in the trades — first as a framer in Houston, then as a project supervisor for a commercial contractor. When he moved to Austin, he saw the same problems everywhere: vague quotes, missed timelines, homeowners who felt ignored from the moment they signed.

He built Wise Constructing around the opposite. Specific scopes, honest pricing, licensed tradespeople doing the actual work, and a project manager who communicates every day. The company has grown to 850+ completed projects across Austin and Central Texas — but the standards haven't changed.

We still do the same things we did on project one: write out the full scope before any work starts, give you one person to call, and walk every finished job before closing it out.

HOW WE OPERATE

What we actually believe about construction

Scope before shovel

We write a complete scope of work before any project starts. You know exactly what you're paying for before you sign anything.

Accurate numbers

Our lead estimator prices what the project actually requires — not a low number to win the job followed by change orders to make up the margin.

Consistent crews

We use the same skilled tradespeople across our projects. Not whoever is available on the day your project starts.

Accountability

One project manager from estimate through final walkthrough. One person who owns your experience.

THE TEAM

The people who build your project

Small enough to know every project personally. Experienced enough to do any of them right.

Marcus Wise, Founder & General Contractor at Wise Constructing

Marcus Wise

Founder & General Contractor

Marcus started Wise Constructing in 2009 after 8 years in the trades — first as a framer, then as a project supervisor for a commercial contractor in Houston. He moved to Austin and saw a market full of homeowners getting burned by contractors who overpromised and underdelivered. He built Wise Constructing around the opposite: specific scopes, honest timelines, and licensed tradespeople doing the work. He still walks every project personally at least twice a week.

Elena Vasquez, Project Manager at Wise Constructing

Elena Vasquez

Project Manager

Elena manages our kitchen and bathroom renovation division. She came to us from a high-end Austin kitchen showroom where she spent 6 years helping homeowners select cabinets, countertops, and tile. She knows materials better than most contractors and communicates with clients every day of a project. Her clients consistently say they always knew what was happening on their project.

James Okafor, Lead Estimator at Wise Constructing

James Okafor

Lead Estimator

James runs our estimating and proposal process. Every quote that leaves our office goes through him. He's been in construction estimating for 12 years — residential and light commercial — and he takes accuracy personally. His quotes don't have "allowances" that explode into overages. He prices what the project actually requires.

Sarah Chen, Interior Designer at Wise Constructing

Sarah Chen

Interior Designer

Sarah joined Wise Constructing to bridge the gap between construction and design. She has a degree in interior design from UT Austin and 9 years of residential design experience. She works with clients on material selections, color palettes, and finish combinations — turning a contractor relationship into a full design-build experience without the premium of a separate design firm.

Rafael Santos, Lead Tile Setter at Wise Constructing

Rafael Santos

Lead Tile Setter

Rafael has been setting tile for 18 years. He started in his family's tile business in San Antonio and has worked exclusively with Wise Constructing for the past 9 years. His work on the large-format tile installs and intricate mosaic patterns has been featured in two Austin home tours. When we say our tile work is different from the competition, Rafael is the reason.

We had Wise Constructing gut and redo our kitchen in Mueller. Honest quote, stuck to the timeline, and the tile work is genuinely beautiful. This is the first contractor we've hired in Austin who did exactly what they said they would do.

Our master bath now looks like it belongs in a magazine. The shower tile work is perfect. They waterproofed everything properly — showed us photos of the membrane before tile went up. That kind of transparency is rare.
